Create your own packaging design with AI: the right prompts (without mockup)

You have an idea in mind but no finished design and no graphic designer at hand? Then now is a good moment: With generative AI, you can create a design for your packaging in just a few minutes – patterns, illustrations, little works of art, exactly to your taste. You don’t need to be a professional, just a bit of curiosity and the right words.

However, there is one stumbling block that almost everyone gets stuck on. And if you know it, you’ll save yourself a lot of frustration. That’s why this little guide – honest, practical, and with ready-made prompts you can copy directly.

The most important trick: Tell the AI to ONLY deliver the design

This is usually where things go wrong. If you ask an AI for “a design for my pizza box,” it will gladly show you a pretty 3D image of a finished box on a wooden table – a so-called mockup. Looks nice, but is worthless for printing. We can’t print a perspective photo of packaging onto real packaging.

What we need is the flat design itself, clean on a pure white background – as if it were the print file. That’s why this element must be included in every prompt. Copy it and add it to every request:

Sounds almost exaggerated, but this exact list ensures that in the end you get a usable, print-ready design and not a beautiful but useless decorative image.

How to proceed in four steps

• Choose AI. Use the AI you trust – for example, ChatGPT with image function, Google Gemini, Adobe Firefly, or Midjourney. For beginners, ChatGPT or Gemini are the easiest.
• Upload logo. Upload your logo and describe the style and colors the design should match.
• Adjust prompt. Take one of the example prompts below, replace the motif and colors with your own, and add the element from above.
• Save in high resolution. Download the result as large as possible (preferably as PNG). The higher the resolution, the cleaner the print.

An honest note about logo and text

Two things AI still often struggles with today: exact logos and readable text. The AI often just “paints” your logo and changes details, and letters quickly become crooked or invented. Our tip: Let the AI mainly create the motif, pattern, or illustration – and leave a calm area free for your logo and text. We will then place your real logo and clean text precisely and sharply during the data check. This way you get the best of both worlds: the creativity of AI and a technically perfect print image.

One more small thing: Make sure the background is really pure white. Some AIs add a slight gray or texture – then just add “background exactly pure white, #FFFFFF” to your prompt. This makes post-processing much easier for us.
